It’s been a fun-filled last few days for Michigan State, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
The Spartans first added two strong linebackers in Matthew Brady and Henry Sakalas. Now, Joe Rossi’s defense adds another major piece in the form of 6-foot-2 cornerback Cordaro “Shyne” Parham out of Jefferson, Georgia.
Parham stepped in front of the second wave of official visitors and the team, where he proceeded to grab the microphone and make it abundantly clear where he wanted to play his college football.
“I want to announce my commitment to be a Spartan.”

The entire banquet hall erupted in cheers, and in one of the coolest commitment announcements you'll see, Parham officially locked himself into the green and white.
It was a fun and refreshing take on seeing a player commit. Usually, fans catch wind of a commitment through social media, an unzipped jacket, or a hat selection surrounded by family and friends. All of those are great ways to announce where you'll be playing football, and any player fortunate enough to have that opportunity should celebrate it however they choose.
From an outside perspective, though, seeing a player stand up in front of a room full of people and commit after just his first day on campus was electric.
If you really want to read between the lines of this simple clip, it shows a player who is not afraid to command a room. That confidence can easily translate to commanding a football field. He appears to be the type of young man who could someday find himself coaching after what many hope will be a long and successful football career.
Parham plays exceptional defense, and with his long frame, impressive athleticism, and blazing speed, he has all the tools coaches look for at the cornerback position. Weighing in at 178 pounds, he is able to move stride for stride with some of the fastest receivers the state of Georgia has to offer.
This is a major commitment for Michigan State as it adds its seventh defensive player to the 2027 recruiting class. Parham becomes the first cornerback commitment for the Spartans in the cycle and the second defensive back overall, joining safety Ty'ire Clark.
247Sports currently does not have a ranking or composite score listed for Parham, but his accomplishments on the field speak for themselves. He was named First Team All-Region 8-AAA at defensive back, another impressive achievement in what has already been a highly successful high school career.
Across three varsity seasons, Parham has helped lead the Jefferson Dragons to 37 victories, three region championships, and two appearances in the state championship game. Those are the types of winning habits that programs love to bring into their locker rooms.
Now, Parham sets his sights on East Lansing following his final season of high school. He will arrive at a position group that could look drastically different by the time he steps on campus. Six of the seven cornerbacks currently on Michigan State’s roster are seniors and will be moving on to the next chapter of their lives after the season.
The official visit weekends have been a tremendous success so far for Michigan State. Jonathan Smith and his staff are leaving no stone unturned as they continue building a roster filled with players who fit the culture they are establishing in East Lansing.
At the same time, the Spartans continue adding pieces to a defense that will need to perform at its highest level when called upon in the coming years.
Landing Parham is another significant step forward for Michigan State's 2027 recruiting class, and it may not be the last piece Joe Rossi’s defense adds before the summer is over.
