Texas A&M has seldom lost a recruiting battle for a priority prospect during third-year head coach Mike Elko’s tenure, going all the way back to the 2024 signing class, while the Aggies currently hold the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting cycle made up of 19 commitments, including a nation-leading five five-stars.

However, after losing out on four-star wide receiver Dontay Tyson, who committed to Washington on Friday, the Aggies lost another head-to-head battle for rising three-star wide receiver Briceson Thrower, who committed to the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night.

Surprising? No. Texas has led the North Forney standout receiver’s recruitment for quite some time, but after his visit to College Station last weekend, the Aggies gained some momentum. After signing four wide receivers in the 2026 cycle, Elko and new OC Holmon Wiggins aren’t in panic mode, but would likely add at least two more receiver commits to pair with four-star Jaden Upshaw.

With Thrower officially committed to the Longhorns, five-star Eric McFarland, who took his official visit last weekend, as well as three-star Damani Warren, are the names to watch as potential commitments in the coming weeks for the Maroon & White. For Texas, holding on to four-star WR Easton Royal is the priority after his successful OV to LSU, making Thrower’s commitment that much more important.

Last season, Thrower’s profile steadily rose after the incoming senior reeled in 32 receptions for 529 yards and five touchdowns last season. Standing at 6’3″ and 185 pounds, Thrower has yet to reach his full potential and will need to add more size to his frame.
