Rutgers football has landed its second commit of the June 6th recruiting weekend, as New York OL Alijah Jones has committed to Rutgers, according to an announcement he made today.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pound interior offensive lineman hails from James Monroe High School up in Rochester, New York.
Jones spoke highly of Rutgers offensive line coach Jim Turner during a previous meeting he took to campus back during spring practice in April. According to The Knight Report, Turner’s “not soft” attitude was one of the main reasons the New York product decided to commit to Rutgers.
He chose Rutgers over schools such as Arkansas, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, South Carolina, Syracuse, Wake Forest, and others. He was supposed to go on an official visit to Pitt next weekend and South Carolina after that, but both visits are expected to be canceled.
Jones is currently rated as a high 3-star by Rivals and a 3-star by 247sports. He is the No. 64 interior offensive lineman and No. 6 player in New York in the 247sports Composite.
Jones is the fifth offensive line commit of the class, joining Charles Butler, Aaron Southard, Jackson Albright, and James Cocozzo.
