Florida State had plenty of its top targets as well as a few committed players on campus this weekend. Arguably the biggest was four-star linebacker Gregory Batson, who is the program’s top-ranked pledge in the 2027 cycle at the moment.
Batson had one mission on this trip, and that was to get some reassurance as to why he chose to commit to FSU last November. The Mississippi State Bulldogs have been pushing hard for Batson, but he said that he doesn’t think he’ll take his official visit to Starkville next weekend and that he’ll likely shut his recruitment down soon.
“It was good, it was a great weekend. More than likely [will shut things down], still have to see how the week goes, but more than likely,” Batson told Noles247.
This is, without question, wonderful news for the Seminoles. They took a big hit by losing former top-ranked pledge safety Mekhi Williams when the four-star prospect left the program and committed to the Wisconsin Badgers. Getting Batson to shut down his recruitment can also persuade recruits like three-star cornerback Dayon Cooper to do the same. He was also on campus this weekend for an official visit.
It’s critical for Florida State to keep all of the guys that they currently have committed and to add some more firepower to the 2027 class. Batson is a great place to start.
He’s the No. 394 overall player nationally and the No. 30 linebacker per 247Sports transfer rankings. Batson is also the No. 44 prospect in the state of Georgia.
