It was another productive recruiting weekend in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech hosted another big recruiting weekend, with several top prospects in town on official visits. Last week, the Hokies hosted the No. 1 player in Virginia, edge Chris Whitehead. And while that visit didn’t end with a commitment — yet — the Hokies did add commitments from cornerback Austin Barrett, tight end Sam Faniel and offensive tackle Luke Braham.

On Sunday, head coach James Franklin’s hard work on the 2027 recruiting class continues to pay off, landing a commitment from four-star wide receiver Cam Wade.

Wade, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound receiver from Loudoun Sports Academy in Leesburg, Virginia, picked the Hokies over his other finalists, Florida State and Maryland. Wade had several offers, from schools such as Alabama, Kentucky, Auburn, LSU, Florida and a host of others. Many believed that FSU led for Wade, but a weekend in Blacksburg changed everything.

A native of Paducah, Kentucky, Wade only recently moved to Virginia, and the Hokies were immediately involved in his recruitment. Franklin and wide receivers coach Fontel Mines were instrumental in landing Wade.

Here’s Wade in action from 2025:

As a junior at Paducah Tilghman High School in 2025, Wade caught 53 passes for 821 yards and 14 touchdowns. He profiles as a slot at the next level. Wade is the third wide receiver in Virginia Tech’s 2027 class, joining Demarcus Brown (Roanoke, Va.) and Anthony Roberts (Rolesville, N.C.).

Wade was originally slated to announce his commitment on July 1.

Wade is considered the No. 8 recruit in Virginia for 2027, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Welcome home, Cam.
