Colorado football should embrace Texas Tech game after Sorsby ruling

Colorado football will still play Texas Tech in 2026, but the conversation around the matchup has changed. Brendan Sorsby's temporary injunction keeps him eligible for the season, and now, reported Big 12 athletic director discussions about not playing Texas Tech have added another layer to the debate.
The new reporting only makes the game more interesting from Colorado's perspective. Texas Tech already looks like one of the Big 12's most dangerous teams, and Sorsby's return strengthens that case. He will miss the Red Raiders' first two games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State because of a two-game suspension, but he should be available by the time they meet Colorado on October 3.
Texas Tech gets its QB
Sorsby gives Texas Tech a proven starter after a strong run at Cincinnati, and that makes the Red Raiders even more threatening in 2026. Their roster already carried Big 12 title and playoff expectations, so this ruling only adds more weight to the matchup.
Backed by a roster that reportedly cost nearly $30 million, Texas Tech has become the Big 12's top spender and the conference's best chance to win a national championship, along with the Big Ten and SEC. They are now coming to Boulder for the first time since 2010.

Colorado still needs the on-field test
For Colorado football, the answer should stay the same: keep the game. If the Buffs want to measure themselves against the best in the league, Texas Tech is exactly the kind of opponent they should welcome.
The reported AD discussions may create noise, but they do not change the value of the game for Colorado. If anything, Texas Tech already has the talent, depth and confidence to be the premier Big 12 threat. With Sorsby cleared, the game only gets bigger, and Colorado should welcome that kind of spotlight to Boulder.
