The Oregon Ducks have been one of the most dominant and popular teams of the 21st century, winning numerous big games, a handful of New Year’s Six Bowl Games, and reaching two national championship games in the last 25 years.
As a result, they’ve been featured on college football’s preeminent pregame show, ESPN’s “College GameDay” over 30 times, and will be making their 35th appearance this weekend against the No. 16 USC Trojans this weekend. It will be a top-20 showdown in Eugene, with both teams looking to get one step closer to a College Football Playoff berth.
This will be the third time that Oregon has been featured on “GameDay” this year, and the second time that “GameDay” will set up shop in Eugene for a game. Earlier this year, the show traveled to Happy Valley to preview Oregon’s game against Penn State, and then they came to Eugene to preview the Ducks‘ game vs. Indiana. This is just the first time since 2007 that “GameDay” has come to Eugene twice in a single season.
So, how have the Ducks fared when featured on the show before? Let’s take a look:
Oregon Ducks All-Time Record When Featured on ‘College GameDay’
The Ducks have been featured 34 times on “College GameDay,” and they’ve been largely successful in those games. The Ducks hold a 20-14 all-time record when on the show. The Ducks have won five of their last eight appearances on the show, with the only losses coming earlier this year against the Hoosiers, last year in the Rose Bowl against Ohio State, and in 2023 against the Washington Huskies in Seattle.
Who Will Be The ‘College GameDay’ Guest Picker?
Earlier this year, it was Oregon Ducks legend and WNBA superstar Sabrina Ionescu as the guest picker for the show. Ionescu was also featured as a guest picker back in 2022 ahead of Oregon’s victory over the UCLA Bruins. GameDay will undoubtedly go elsewhere for their guest-picker selection this time around, and thanks to some well-timed bye weeks in the NFL, their pool of candidates opened up a little bit.
Former Oregon QBs Bo Nix, Justin Herbert, and Marcus Mariota are all available thanks to off-weeks for the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers, and Washington Commanders. Does that mean we see one of those players back in Eugene for the big game? It’s certainly possible.
This is also a game where a lot of former alumni will be in town, like Kenjon Barner, Jonathan Stewart, and many more. ESPN will have a great pool of candidates to choose from.
The Lee Corso Effect
Coach Lee Corso was undoubtedly the most beloved member of the “GameDay” crew for decades, and throughout that time, he built a special relationship with Oregon’s mascot, The Duck. However, with Corso’s retirement earlier this year, he will not be at the show ahead of Oregon vs. USC.
Here’s a look at how Oregon fared when Corso picked the Ducks, and when he went against them:
The relationship between Lee Corso and the Oregon Duck has been special. Some numbers:
🦆 Of his 29 times picking an Oregon game, Lee Corso has donned the Duck headgear 21 times.
🦆 Oregon is 14-7 in games where Corso has picked the Ducks.
🦆 In the 8 times where Corso has…— Zachary Neel (@zacharycneel) August 30, 2025
