The recruitment of 2027 four-star offensive lineman Lincoln Mageo has gotten pretty competitive over the last few weeks, but it appears Michigan continues to hold the edge heading into this last official visit and eventual commitment, at least according to two recruiting insiders.
In an article where he calls his shot on several uncommitted prospects, Rivals’ Adam Gorney ($) believes the 6-foot-3.5, 285-pounder from Oceanside, California will eventually commit to the Wolverines. This comes about a week after On3’s Ethan McDowell also predicted Mageo to Michigan.
Here is what Gorney had to say:
“Mageo’s recruitment has gotten a whole lot more interesting over the last few weeks.Michigan looked like the absolute clear frontrunner for the versatile offensive lineman ahead of visits and the Wolverines still look very strong after he was in Ann Arbor but there’s no denying that Mageo had a terrific visit to Utah as well.
“During that trip, Mageo hit it off with Kelvin Obot and Isaiah Garcia and loved his time around position coach Jordan Gross and his family. It will be tough to turn down the Utes because he has felt phenomenal connections there.Washington is also in the picture but seems to be running third even with friend and former Oceanside teammate Ezaya Tokio there.
“In the end, this looks like a Michigan/Utah battle and the Wolverines still have the edge. Position coach Jim Harding’s development over the years and especially of Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu into first-round draft picks in April should carry the day.”
Prediction: Michigan
Confidence level: 60%
Biggest threat: Utah
Mageo, who unofficially visited for three days in April and returned for an official visit last weekend, has been a top target for a while now and is a major priority for Harding and company. The Wolverines still look very strong after his official visit, but there is also no denying he had a good time at Utah the weekend prior.
The Utes are a legitimate threat and will be difficult for Mageo to turn down given how strong his connections are there, but it also seems clear based off Gorney’s reporting — as well as McDowell’s prediction even before Mageo took his official visit — that the Wolverines are out front, and perhaps comfortably. Harding has made it clear that Mageo is a wanted man and would pair up perfectly with the other committed offensive linemen in four-star tackle Jakari Lipsey, three-star interior Louis Esposito and three-star interior/tackle Sidney Rouleau.
He is planning on making his commitment on July 11, so there is still time for things to change between now and then, especially considering he is going to take an official visit to Washington the weekend of June 19. But it’s always reassuring to see predictions be placed for a recruit that Michigan has been targeting for months now. Should things stay the same over the course of the next month, the Wolverines should be in line to receive some good news in mid-July.
Mageo is ranked No. 388 overall on the Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 26 interior offensive lineman and No. 32 player from the state of California.
