Florida football checked in at No. 20 in ESPN's updated future power rankings, falling five spots since the list's last edition.

For ESPN and many other college football pundits, the Gators' unanswered questions at quarterback remain a looming concern. The trio of frontrunners for signal-calling duties was highlighted as Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo, redshirt freshman Tramell Jones Jr., and top-150 recruit Will Griffin are expected to enter fall camp with hopes of first-team reps.

Despite losing former five-star prospect DJ Lagway, the Gators were able to retain several cornerstone pieces from 2025, including running back Jadan Baugh, linebacker Myles Graham, safety Bryce Thornton, wide receiver Vernell Brown III and wide receiver Dallas Wilson. ESPN's Adam Rittenberg identified these players as key building blocks for first-year head coach Jon Sumrall and the program.

Florida's transfer portal haul was another area that drew praise from Rittenberg, who noted that Eric Singleton Jr., Luke Harpring, Emmanuel Oyebadejo, Harrison Moore, and DJ Coleman are new additions who could have a significant impact on the season's outcome.

Another with a lack of definition at quarterback, the Gators are searching for consistency on the defensive front — a unit that struggled to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks in 2025.

"Florida certainly needs more from its defensive line, especially the pass rush, but brings back some experience with senior Kamran James and juniors Jamari Lyons and Brendan Bett, who combined for 101 tackles last season," Rittenberg said.

The offensive line will see an overhaul as well, with three new starters joining the fray as Florida lost Austin Barber and Jake Slaughter to the NFL draft this past April. Knijeah Harris and Caden Jones are the lone returning starters for Phil Trautwein's group.

Rittenberg went on to feature notable newcomers along the line of scrimmage, saying, "The offensive line has more new faces after a portal push that yielded Harrison Moore, who also followed Faulkner from Georgia Tech, Penn State's TJ Shanahan Jr. and Eagan Boyer, and Stanford's Emeka Ugorji."

Florida's offseason recruiting surge did not go unnoticed, with Rittenberg acknowledging the foundation Sumrall is building through success on the recruiting trail as a major strength for the Orange and Blue. Sumrall has constructed one of the most highly-touted classes in the nation, led by the commitment of five-star tackle Maxwell Hiller.

However, signing recruits is only half the battle for the Gators. "High school recruiting wasn't the problem under previous Gators coach Billy Napier, as Florida signed 45 blue-chip recruits since 2024," he noted.

Sumrall will need to bring this collection of talent together to meet expectations that continue to become more grandiose in Gainesville.
