When former Saline (Mich.) standout quarterback CJ Carr announced his commitment to Notre Dame over Michigan in 2022, it shocked everyone in Ann Arbor.

The grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, many expected CJ to follow in his grandfather's footsteps.

While CJ didn't head to the Wolverines, his younger brother will begin his college journey in Ann Arbor. Tommy Carr announced his commitment to Michigan on Sunday, flipping from Miami (Ohio).

Tommy had been committed to the Red Hawks since February 21.

The decision shouldn't come as a shock to anyone who's followed Tommy's recruitment. Since he committed to Miami, Power Four programs started to take notice.

In May, he picked up offers from Rutgers and Wake Forest. Carr's biggest offer came on Sunday, though, as the Wolverines came calling.

According to 247Sports, Tommy is ranked as the No. 29 quarterback in the 2026 cycle. He led the Hornets to a 10-2 record this season, passing for 2,979 yards and 37 touchdowns while also rushing for 300 yards and eight more touchdowns.

Wolverine fans hoping for Tommy to shine like CJ has for Notre Dame

If Tommy ends up being as good as his older brother has been for Notre Dame this year, the succession from Bryce Underwood to the younger Carr could be a positive one.

CJ was named Notre Dame's starter ahead of the 2025 season, leading the Fighting Irish to eight straight wins after an 0-2 start to the year.

He sat out last season and learned the Fighting Irish offense. That redshirt season has proven pivotal as he's completed 67% of his passes for 2,487 yards and 21 touchdowns with only six interceptions.
