COLUMBIA — South Carolina football receiver Nyck Harbor spent the night of Nov. 15 in the hospital in College Station, Texas, but returned the team facilities in Columbia on Nov. 16, coach Shane Beamer said.
The Gamecocks (3-7, 1-7 SEC) lost 31-30 to the No. 3 Aggies (10-0, 7-0) after leading by 27 at halftime. Harbor was injured during the fourth quarter. He had three receptions for 102 yards and an 80-yard touchdown.
Beamer didn’t give extensive details on the injury but explained a defender had landed on Harbor’s chest so as a precaution they sent Harbor to the hospital.
“We’ll see how the week goes,” Beamer said regarding Harbor’s status for the Nov. 22 home game vs Coastal Carolina (4:15 p.m., SEC Network).
Shane Beamer mentioned that Nyck Harbor went to the hospital after an A&M player landed on his chest.

Harbor posted a photo Nov. 15 in the back of what appeared to be an ambulance not long after the game. Beamer said he stayed with his father and they both flew back to South Carolina. When they chatted on the phone after the game, Beamer said Harbor was in good spirits.
What happened with Nyck Harbor, state trooper?
In the first half, Harbor pulled up hobbled after an 80-yard touchdown reception where he continued to run into the tunnel after scoring.
He came back out to the sideline and was bumped by a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The trooper stationed near the tunnel at Kyle Field was “relieved” from his game day assignment following the incident.
After Harbor crossed into the end zone, the Gamecocks’ wide receiver kept running into the tunnel, where he was holding onto the back of his leg, which prompted several of his teammates to check on him. As they returned to the field, the trooper shoulder bumped Harbor and yelled at him.
“We are aware of the incident in the NE tunnel involving a DPS trooper. He has been relieved of his game day assignment,” Texas A&M’s Police Department wrote on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
When will Shane Beamer replace fired assistant coaches?
In the midst of the losing season, Beamer fired two coaches. Offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley was fired on Oct. 12 then coordinator Mike Shula was on Nov. 2.
“As far as time frame I don’t want to like lock me into anything but I would say as soon as possible after the Clemson game,” Beamer said of replacing the coaches. “Whatever that looks like … I don’t want this thing to drag (on).”
The Gamecocks host Coastal Carolina on Nov. 22, then Clemson on Nov. 29 (noon ET, ABC or ESPN). The Tigers (5-5) are a win away from bowl eligibility. Early signing day is Dec. 3, days after the final game.
“We got 13 days left and I’m going to give this team everything I got over these next 13 days but I’ve got a extremely high sense of urgency to immediately get to work on 2026 because I know how close we are,” Beamer said.
He said ideally whoever is the new offensive coordinator is able to have input on the offensive staff, which includes the vacant spot as the line coach.
Can South Carolina football make a bowl game?
It’s highly unlikely the Gamecocks will play in a bowl game as the primary requirement is six wins. But there are instances when a 5-7 team gets invited because of its Academic Progress Rate if there are not enough six-win teams.
“I would love to,” Beamer said when asked if he would accept a bowl game invite. “The opportunity to go compete again with this team, spend another month together with this team, the opportunity to continue to develop the young guys on our team for next season, one million percent.”
But that isn’t a possibility unless they go 2-0 to close the season. Beamer’s worst record so far was 2023 when they went 5-7. They didn’t play in a bowl game that year.
“Now I say that without having talked to (athletic department) … my bosses, but yes sign me up just because how much I love coaching these guys and how much I just love coaching in general and competing in general,” Beamer said.
