Kirk Herbstreit ranks the top five college football teams ahead of Week 10

ESPN college football expert and “College GameDay” host Kirk Herbstreit has named his top five college football teams. Herbstreit did not change his top five at all ahead of Week 10.
Last week did not feature many upsets, but Week 10 will likely be different. Herbstreit still has the Ohio State Buckeyes as his No. 1 team. The Buckeyes have looked like the most complete team in the country and Herbstreit praised the “dominant fashion” Ohio State has played with, but he does not see a lot separating them and his No. 2 team, Indiana, along with his No. 3 team, Texas A&M.
“Nothing changed for me either,” Herbstreit said on his podcast with Joey Galloway. “I still I think those top three teams are very, very challenging to try to separate.”
Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M are ranked as the top three teams in the nation in major polls. However, not all of Herbstreit’s rankings agree with the national consensus.
Herbstreit’s most controversial ranking, by far, is having the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at No. 4. “I really like that Georgia Tech team,” Herbstrei said. “We’ll see. Bigger challenges ahead for them.”
Yes, Georgia Tech is undefeated, but the Yellow Jackets have not exactly faced the most difficult schedule. In fact, ESPN’s football power index (FPI) ranks Georgia Tech’s schedule as the No. 81 most-difficult in the country. Additionally, FPI ranks Georgia Tech as just the No. 25 team in the nation and gives Georgia Tech the eighth-best strength of record behind three SEC teams with a loss, which are the Georgia Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels and Alabama Crimson Tide.
Alabama checks in as Herbstreit’s No. 5 team. Herbstreit left Georgia out of his top five even though the Bulldogs have much more impressive wins than Georgia Tech. Georgia has top-15 ranked wins over Tennessee and Ole Miss. Georgia Tech has not beat anybody currently ranked in the Coaches Poll.
