Georgia’s Kirby Smart Sends Message After Major Recruiting News

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs advanced to 9-1 on Saturday, defeating the Texas Longhorns 35-10. Quarterback Gunner Stockton threw for 229 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.

Now on a six-game winning streak, Georgia is looking for its second straight SEC title and first national championship since 2022. Their focus may be on this season, but they continue to make moves for the future of the program.

On Sunday, Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett reported that the Bulldogs landed a commitment from class of 2028 quarterback Jayden Wade. He chose Georgia over schools such as Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Miami and Florida, which had all extended offers.

Rivals Industry Rankings place Wade as a four-star recruit and the No. 1 player in the nation, making it a huge addition. This season for IMG Academy, he threw for 1,376 yards, 20 touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 254 yards and three touchdowns.

Quickly after the news broke, Smart took to X, posting a simple message to celebrate landing Wade, saying “Go Dawgs !!”

Landing the quarterback didn’t come as a major surprise. Following a visit to Athens for Georgia’s loss to Alabama on Sep. 27, Wade told Rivals’ Jeremy Johnson, “Georgia is one of my top schools. I enjoyed being at the game. I would like to see more.”

He becomes the second commit the Bulldogs have landed in the 2028 cycle, joining unranked tight end Asa Wall. It’s also the second time in three cycles they’ve landed the top quarterback, joining Jared Curtis in the 2026 recruiting class.

“One of the most physically gifted quarterbacks in the 2028 cycle,” writes Rivals’ director of scouting Charles Power. “Checks in at 6-foot-3.5, 183 pounds, and registers as an elite athlete with impressive speed times in the combine setting.”

Wade gives Smart and the rest of Georgia a reason to be excited as the team gets set to play its final two regular-season games with hopes of a deep playoff run.
