The Ohio State Buckeyes got their first commitment of June over the weekend, and more looks to be on the way. A crucial couple of weeks could be ahead for Ohio State cornerbacks coach Tim Walton.

The Ohio State Buckeyes finally got some good news they’ve been waiting for over the weekend with their first commitment of June.

Ohio State’s streak of official visit weekends without a commitment has ended with a 2027 addition by the way of Massillon (OH) CB Deontay Malone choosing the Buckeyes. A top 300 player in the class who gives Tim Walton his first cornerback commitment in the current recruiting class.

Things are beginning to heat up for Ohio State and its secondary recruiting. The Buckeyes are in a good position to add a couple more players to the 2027 haul soon.

Adding Malone was a good addition for the Buckeyes by way of an athletic 6-foot cornerback who brings the energy and play style Walton has typically coveted with the Buckeyes. Ohio State adding Malone gives the No. 284 overall player in the country, per 247 Sports Composite. Malone is the No. 11-ranked player in Ohio and a big-time two-way threat for the Massillon Tigers.

Malone was joined by four-star Princeton (OH) CB Monsanna Torbert Jr. over the weekend for an official visit. The Buckeyes are the team to beat for the former Indiana Hoosiers commitment and it would surprise no one if he committed to playing in Columbus before his scheduled official visit to Michigan on June 19.

“What continues to stand out about OSU is just the brand, one of the best places in country to get developed if not the best,” Torbert said via Rivals

“The culture, the people in Columbus love Ohio State, and it’s ran like a NFL system. Coach Day, Coach (Matt) Patricia and Coach (Tim) Walton and the current players just makes this place feel like home.”

Ohio State will take multiple cornerbacks in the 2027 class and a couple of them coming from Ohio would be beneficial because they’re not going to pay a premium for these players. The Buckeyes still have at least two full seasons of Devin Sanchez in Columbus and the same can be said about former Georgia CB Dominick Kelly.

Ohio State could land another cornerback commitment on Wednesday when St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) CB Jaden Carey makes his college decision. The 6-foot cornerback is choosing between the Buckeyes, Miami, and Auburn. At this current time, the Buckeyes are the heavy favorites to land him.

Malone’s commitment gives Ohio State 14 players in the class of 2027, and it sure looks like more will soon be on the way.
