2027 in-state prospect flips commitment to Tennessee football

Dayon Cooper flipped his commitment from Florida State to Tennessee on Monday.

The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect is a 2027 in-state target from South Pittsburg High School in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. 247Sports ranks Cooper as the No. 52 athlete in the class and No. 32 player in Tennessee.

Florida State offered him a scholarship on Feb. 11. He committed to the Seminoles during an unofficial visit on April 4 and decommitted on Sunday.

Tennessee offered Cooper a scholarship on Feb. 17. He has visited the Vols three times, most recently for an official visit on June 12.

Eastern Kentucky was the first school to offer Cooper a scholarship on Feb. 3, 2025. Other schools to offer him scholarships include Arkansas State, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Louisville, Wake Forest, Memphis, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Maryland, Middle Tennessee State, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma State.

Tennessee has 16 commitments in its 2027 football recruiting class: linebacker JP Peace, offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo, defensive lineman Kadin Fife, quarterback Derrick Baker, athlete Jaden Butler, wide receiver KeSean Bowman, defensive back Carter Jamison and defensive back Brandon Leavell, tight end Malik Howard, defensive lineman Christian Mays, cornerback Dylan Haley, linebacker Kenneth Simon II, kicker Ford Fehling, long snapper Sam McKeown, offensive tackle Q’Mari Hudson and Cooper.
