It’s been quiet on the recruiting trail for the BYU Cougars football program over the last several weeks, but on Monday it got a commitment from a prospect who was previously pledged to another school.

Demichael Burks, a defensive back out of Desert Pines High in Las Vegas, announced his commitment to the Cougars as part of their 2027 recruiting class.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and in the neighborhood of 160 pounds depending on the website, Burks had been committed to Fresno State. He had posted on social media in early June that he took a visit to Fresno State and didn’t announce that he was de-committing from there before Monday’s announcement about BYU.

Burks posted on April 17 that he had received a scholarship offer from BYU, which is his lone Power Four offer, although he has a bunch of offers from schools at other levels.

Burks becomes the sixth high school prospect to be committed to the Cougars as part of their 2027 recruiting class. He is the second cornerback (joining Ryan Wooten out of New Jersey) and second from the Las Vegas area (joining running back Ezra Sanelivi).
