The Iowa Hawkeyes fell victim to yet another improbably close loss this past weekend as the USC Trojans stormed back from a 21-10 halftime deficit to take down Iowa 26-21. It was another game where the Hawkeyes faltered late, which has only added more heartbreak to the close losses they have suffered.
Iowa’s four losses, which are to Iowa State, Indiana, Oregon, and USC, have been by a combined 15 points. The Hawkeyes are right there, but have yet to close out a tight game. While being right there kept Iowa flirting with the rankings last week, a second consecutive loss sees them exiting the top 25 of the USA TODAY Sports NCAA College Football Re-Rank.
The Iowa Hawkeyes slid five spots and are coming in at No. 26, just outside the top 25, in the rankings heading into Week 13. This is similar to the US LBM Coaches Poll, which sees the Hawkeyes out of the top 25, but still receiving votes.
Iowa has a great chance to get back in the win column this weekend when it returns to Kinnick Stadium for Senior Day and the home finale against Michigan State, which will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT and air on FS1.
The Spartans, sitting at 3-7 and winless in Big Ten play, took a tumble in the rankings this week. Michigan State lost to Penn State and slid seven spots to No. 98.
