NFL teams are quickly doing their homework on Brendan Sorsby amid reports that the Texas Tech quarterback plans to enter the supplemental draft.
Sorsby will reportedly attempt to go pro amid controversy regarding his collegiate eligibility for the 2026 season. He’s admitted to gambling on sports, including Indiana football games, while enrolled in the program.
The latest unexpected turn has NFL organizations seeking information on Sorsby from one of his former coaches. Cincinnati’s Scott Satterfield, who spent the last two years with Sorsby, told reporters that people in the NFL have contacted him to learn more about the prospect.
“There certainly have been scouts; GMs have reached out and are just asking questions on a more personal level, probably more than the football level, with their interest, knowing that potentially something like this could happen,” Satterfield said, per Bearcat Journal’s Keegan Knickoson. “I certainly think now that the news is out, over the next few weeks, there’s going to be a lot more inquiries about him, and trying to find more and more about him, and be able to take a chance to, if any of them take him.”
“Somebody will give him an opportunity”
Satterfield saw Sorsby make notable strides as a junior. Before transferring to the Red Raiders, the Texas native registered 2,800 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, nine rushing touchdowns, and five interceptions with the Bearcats last season.
Sorsby can become the first quarterback in 15 years to be selected in the supplemental draft. Satterfield anticipates his former player drawing suitors.
“I certainly expect there to be takers,” Satterfield predicted. “I think, even before all this stuff hit, we had 32 teams come to our campus, and a lot of them were inquiring about him at that point. And he could’ve come out and potentially been a first-round draft pick.
“There will certainly be teams very interested in him. He’s very talented, has great size, and can run and throw. I think if you just look at the history of the NFL, there are guys who have made mistakes, and they still have taken chances on them. And so I feel like he’ll certainly have learned from this and grown, and somebody will give him an opportunity.”
