Alabama football will look a little different up front when the Crimson Tide takes the field this fall, but head coach Kalen DeBoer likes what he has seen from his rebuilt offensive line so far.
Replacing experience is never easy, especially when five offensive linemen with starting experience depart in the same offseason. Some moved on to the NFL, while others entered the transfer portal, leaving Alabama with significant holes to fill heading into 2026. Rather than viewing it as a setback, DeBoer and his staff attacked the challenge head-on.
The Crimson Tide responded by bringing in six offensive linemen through the transfer portal while also signing five offensive linemen in its 2026 recruiting class. The result is a group that may be new, but one that is loaded with competition, talent and potential.
Speaking recently at the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame banquet, DeBoer expressed optimism about the direction of the unit and the work being put in behind the scenes.
“We have brought in a number of players,” DeBoer said. “We had to with the graduation of five guys, a couple guys in the NFL, a couple more in the portal. So, there were some needs. Of course, we brought some high school guys in and the rest had to be filled in with the portal. So, they’re all working hard. Love the direction that it’s headed.”
That confidence starts with the effort and attitude the new group has displayed since arriving in Tuscaloosa. While there may not be as much game experience returning as Alabama fans are accustomed to seeing, the coaching staff appears encouraged by the progress being made throughout offseason workouts.
A major reason for that confidence is new offensive line coach Adrian Klemm.
Klemm was hired following the departure of Chris Kapilovic after the 2025 season, and DeBoer believes the veteran coach is already making a significant impact on the program. Klemm brings both college and NFL experience to Alabama, something that immediately commands respect from the players in the room.
According to DeBoer, Klemm’s ability to teach, develop chemistry and hold players accountable has stood out from the moment he arrived.
“Coach Klemm, our offensive line coach, has done a great job, not just from a teaching aspect, but the chemistry, really pushing them,” DeBoer said. “He has great high expectations. He’s done it at a high level. He knows what it’s supposed to look like, not just in college, but the NFL.”
That NFL background could prove especially valuable for a young offensive line looking to establish itself. Players understand the standard Klemm is demanding because he has coached and developed talent at the highest level of football.
For Alabama, success in 2026 will largely depend on how quickly this offensive line comes together. Whether it’s protecting a new starting quarterback or creating running lanes for the Tide’s talented backfield, the offensive line will be one of the most important position groups on the roster.
The pieces are new, but DeBoer believes the foundation is being built the right way. If the progress continues through summer workouts and fall camp, Alabama’s offensive line could become one of the biggest success stories of the 2026 season.
