Don’t let Lane Kiffin get hot on the recruiting trail.

The LSU football head coach landed two commitments in the 2027 recruiting cycle on Wednesday, June 17. While the addition of running back Trey Martin over Florida and Ole Miss was a major win, the prize of the day was landing five-star edge Chris Whitehead.

Whitehead, the No. 32 overall player in the USA TODAY Sports Composite Rankings, announced his commitment to the Tigers. He also held offers from Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina and other programs.

He joins an impressive class by Kiffin, which includes K.J. Green, who is ranked as a five-star recruit by 247Sports and the No. 6 overall prospect.

As a junior, Bird recorded 54 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 11 games on defense for Lloyd C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, Virginia. He also caught six passes for 77 yards and three touchdowns on offense.
