We are still months away from the start of the 2026-27 college basketball season, but Michael Malone and his staff are working hard in his first year as the head man in charge. Malone and his staff are wrapping up their 2026-27 roster, but they are also focusing on the future of the program.

UNC has already offered a handful of prospects in the 2027 recruiting class and now they are after the top player in the 2028 class.

The Tar Heels officially extended an offer to five-star small forward AJ Williams on Tuesday night. The recruit posted on his Instagram account that he has received the offer, as UNC officially joins the race.

With the open contact period here, several programs have reached out to Williams already, including UNC's biggest rival, Duke. Other programs include BYU, Louisville, Indiana, Michigan, Alabama, and Kentucky, among others.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Williams has 20 total offers in his recruitment at the moment, and more will surely come as it's still very early. He's ranked as the top overall recruit in the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

Williams is the second player to be offered by UNC in the 2028 class, joining Yann Kamagate.
