The Wolverines have landed another coveted pass rusher recruit in the 2027 class, as four-star edge Ifeanyi Emedobi announced his commitment to Michigan on Thursday morning. He chose the Wolverines over two other Big Ten schools, Penn State and Minnesota.
The 6-foot-2, 214-pounder was one of the most hotly pursued prospects in the Midwest. After bursting onto the scene as a junior this past season, he followed that up with impressive showings on the camp circuit this summer. Emedobi ran a verified 4.48 40-yard dash at the Under Armour NEXT All-American Camp in Chicago last month. He also has a verified 37.7 inch vertical, 126-inch broad jump, 81-inch wingspan and 11-inch hands, all really good numbers for a player his size.
Michigan offered Emedobi on May 5 and moved quickly to make him a priority. Assistant defensive line coach David Denham was the one who initially offered him, and then edge rushers coach Lewis Powell made a visit at his school shortly after that.
“They put their best foot forward to recruit me, even though they were late in the game,” Emedobi told Maize n Brew’s Zach Libby. “They’ve shown me love and kept it real with me.
“I’m really about development on-and-off the field. I know every school will develop me, but I’m just looking for the best fit where I can be the best player I can possibly be. (On the official visits), I’ll be looking at how the staff runs things. It’s not about the facilities, it’s who’s in the facilities.”
Emedobi’s recruitment had an interesting twist heading into his official visit weekend. Originally scheduled to visit Ann Arbor for Victor’s Weekend from June 19-21, he moved his trip up one weekend instead of taking his originally scheduled trip to Indiana.
“It was great visit that compared well to all my other visits,” Emedobi told The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($). “The main highlights of the trip were the bonds between the staff and players as well as the Utah staff’s resume with development.
“What stood out to me the most is everyone’s belief in coach (Kyle) Whittingham and their trust in him. I think coach Whittingham can turn Michigan into a great development program and take them very far football wise.”
With Emedobi now in the fold, the Wolverines are up to 17 total commitments in the 2027 class. He is also the third edge rusher to commit to Michigan, joining four-star Jayce Brewer and four-star Recarder Kitchen.
Emedobi was a terror in the backfield as a junior in 2025, compiling 50 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He is ranked No. 443 overall in the 2027 class, per the Rivals Industry Rankings, as well as the No. 10 player from Indiana and No. 44 edge rusher. Check out his best junior year highlights below.
