On Thursday, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko continued to prove that he is one of the best recruiters in the country after landing the program’s sixth five-star commitment in the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, as blue-chip linebacker Kaden Henderson, who is the No. 1-ranked linebacker in the cycle, committed to the Aggies over Notre Dame and LSU.
After receiving a late prediction to land the five-star defender just days before his commitment, it was notable that Notre Dame was set to host Henderson for an official visit to South Bend, starting on Friday, but according to several sources, including TexAgs insider Ryan Brauninger, Henderson had his sights set on committing to Texas A&M weeks beforehand, but wanted to weigh his options.
From playing in the SEC to his strong relationship with the Texas A&M coaching staff, Kaden Henderson told Rivals insider Chad Simmons that it was “hard to say no” to either program, feeling that he would be a perfect fit, even if he had committed to Notre Dame. Still, Mike Elko is on the cusp of building something in College Station, and Henderson is completely comfortable with the plan in place once he makes his way to campus.
“I just feel like my heart was at Texas A&M. I can see myself there tomorrow or next month and not have a problem. It is about that comfort level.”
Announcing his commitment on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday afternoon, Henderson also shut down his recruitment, stating that he plans to play for the Aggies over the next “three or four years” and will not take any other visits until making his way back to College Station his summer/fall.
Mike Elko has continued to dominate the Florida recruiting circuit, landing four of the top-ranked prospects, including the program’s No. 1-ranked commit, five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews. Henderson’s future is extremely bright, and given his elite athleticism and versatility as a pass rusher, I wouldn’t be surprised if he earns a starting job in his first or second season.
