Florida State of Recruiting: Official visitor preview for the June 19 weekend and other updates

The summer months are upon us, and that means official visit season has arrived. Recruiting strategy for high school prospects has shifted in the new age of NIL-funded recruiting. Major programs used to jockey for the final official visit slot to make a strong final impression, but now prep recruiting is being treated increasingly similar to transfer portal recruiting. Programs now want earlier cracks at their targets so they can present strong offers and try to shut down any future official visits. Prospects report feeling highly pressured to commit early, but some still honor taking all of their official visits (which are now unlimited).
The final weekend of official visitors is here, with the Seminoles hosting exactly one prospect on campus. The list was once in the double-digits but has seen considerable attrition following a flurry of commitments over the past two weeks, reinforcing the point in the first paragraph about pushing for early pledges. The lone confirmed visitor is a FSU verbal commitment.
FSU recruiting: Visitors for the June 12th weekend
- 3-star DB Jemari Foreman: Louisville has made a significant push for Foreman and has a bit of momentum following his official visit there. Florida State really wants to keep Foreman in its class and is recruiting him as a safety. Foreman committed back in September 2025 and has transferred to Cypress Bay High School after previously playing for Plantation. He racked up 10 interceptions last season, tied for most in the state of Florida in 2025, to go along with 70 tackles (nine for loss), 11 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and a sack. Safeties coach Evan Cooper and Defensive Coordinator Tony White will look to solidify Foreman’s pledge this weekend and thanks to a complete dearth of other visitors, Foreman will get plenty of individual attention.
In all my years covering recruiting for Tomahawk Nation, I’ve never written a summer weekend OV preview that only had one visitor. I guess there’s a first time for everything. That said, let’s dig into some other updates on the recruiting trail:
- As of this writing, I still feel confident about FSU landing the commitments of RB/ATH Marquis Fennell, DL Jason Lewis, and DL Sam LeJeune. Strongest confidence on Fennell, least on Lewis, but FSU should be able to land all three this summer. LeJeune’s announcement could come at any time over the next couple weeks, while Fennell announces on June 25 and Lewis on July 10. LeJeune in particular is a must-win recruitment for the Seminoles, and I like FSU to win a tough battle over Tosh Lupoi and Cal here. Fennell would be an excellent fit on offense and Lewis is the best in-state defensive line prospect on FSU’s board.
- Safety target Ta’Shawn Poole, on the other hand, got a whole lot more interesting over the past few days. Coming off his official visit to FSU last week, confidence was sky high in Tallahassee for landing his commitment. I would’ve predicted him to be FSU’s next verbal commit back on Sunday. Then Georgia re-entered the picture and cranked up the heat (and likely financial offer, although he isn’t being offered peanuts by Florida State), resulting in an official visit to Athens this weekend. Poole recently stated that the most important factor in his recruitment is consistency in long relationships, so we’ll see if that was the truth or not on June 22, when he’s set to announce. It’ll either be a much-lesser version of KJ Bolden, or FSU will notch a big win over the SEC. FSU is still very much in play for Poole and he’d immediately become the most talented commit in the class, but I’m not betting against Kirby Smart here.
- Interior OL target DaJohn Yarborough decides on July 11, and FSU made a big move for him during his official visit. He’s the top priority among Herb Hand’s offensive line recruits and one of the top priorities in the entire cycle, and I’m not sure any of his other finalists can say that. He played his first two seasons in Minnesota, so he isn’t a typical West Coast recruit. If FSU misses on him, it will enter the season without an offensive line commitment. I’m not confident enough to project him to FSU quite yet, but more intel should come out in the next few weeks.
- Wide receiver Majay Thompson is scheduled to commit in the next 48 hours. Florida State made a strong impression and Thompson said FSU’s NIL offer is likely among his highest, but he has significant concerns about the coaching staff’s job security. I would take the field right now (Alabama, Wake Forest, or Georgia) for Thompson and even if he does commit to FSU, I think it would be shaky at best and I’d have him pegged as the first to jump ship during the season.
