Ohio State closes out final recruiting camp of June with new offers

Thursday being the final June one-day position camp at Ohio State, the coaching staff was as busy on the evaluation side of things. Plenty of prep prospects flocking to campus, the Buckeyes dished out a number of new offers.

One of the more busy time periods for the program’s recruiting efforts, the remainder of June and into July will hopefully bring the commitments this staff has put in the work for. Several players to discuss, here are some of the latest athletes to get the good news from Ohio State.

2028 QB lands Ohio State offer

When looking at quarterback recruiting, Ryan Day has been a coach that loves seeing first-hand what guys are capable of on the field. Several times now Day has insisted that seeing a player throw in-person is a major part of his evaluation tactics, and yesterday provided the chance for that to be the case again when California native Josiah Boyd was on site to perform at the one-day camp.

A class of 2028 signal caller, Boyd did enough in front of the staff to land his latest offer. The No. 84 player nationally and seventh best quarterback per the 247Sports Composite, Boyd had double-digit offers to his name already before the Buckeyes. Florida, Oregon, UCLA, Washington and others earlier to the mix, Boyd is far from seeing the attention paid his way slowing down.

The offering clearly meaning something, Boyd was vocal with Greg Biggins of Rivals when he said, “all offers mean a lot but this one really fired me up,” following the good news. Quotes like this and his time spent with Julian Sayin show Ohio State is likely to be a consistent theme in his recruitment moving forward.

Buckeyes host 2028 RB from familiar program

Recruiting at the same high school multiple times is always a bonus for any college program because it brings familiarity, and Thursday Ohio State took the first step towards that when they offered 2028 running back prospect, Xander Edwards.

A Florida native, Edwards attends The Bolles School in Jacksonville, and in the 2026 cycle, the Buckeyes were able to sign safety Simeon Caldwell from the same prep program. Producing high level talent consistently, the coaching staff is taking notice, and yesterday’s camp showed why.

Taking to the field to show what he’s got, the 6-foot-1, 210 pound athlete impressed enough to catch Carlos Locklyn’s attention. Leaving camp with one of his latest offers, Edwards is seeing the fruit of his labors paying off with these latest updates.

The No. 117 player nationally and seventh best running back per the 247Sports Composite, Thursday saw both Ohio State and Michigan enter the fold bring his offer list to well over 30 schools currently. Multiple 2028 running backs hearing from the Buckeyes the past couple of weeks, Edwards is one of the latest keeping tabs on thanks to his in-person efforts and several schools after his same abilities.

New offers continue to roll

Here’s a quick breakdown of even more prospects that did enough to gain Ohio State offers this week.

Jamir Lee – Defensive Lineman (Carrollton, Georgia/Carrollton)

A 6-foot-2, 275 pound defensive lineman, Jamir Lee was landed his Ohio State offer yesterday. The No. 232 player nationally and 24th best at his position per the 247Sports Composite for the 2028 class, the Buckeyes join an impressive list of 20-plus others to throw their name into the mix.

Carson LaCombe – Wide Receiver (San Antonio, Texas/Pieper)

Another in-person camper on Thursday, Texas native Carson LaCombe was able to workout in front of Cortez Hankton and his efforts were more than worth the trek as he leaves town with the Buckeyes now on his offer list. A 6-foot-3, 200 pound receiver in the 2028 class, LaCombe checks in as the No. 199 player nationally and 30th best receiver per the 247Sports Composite.

Austin Phillips – Linebacker (Kendallville, Indiana/East Noble)

Just finishing his freshman year of high school, Austin Phillips is already well into his recruiting process ahead of his sophomore campaign. Making the trek from Indiana yesterday, Phillips was able to compete in front of Ohio State’s staff and left camp with the nod from James Laurinaitis.

A 6-foot-2, 200 pound linebacker, Austin is not yet ranked via his 247Sports profile, but does hold double-digit offers from the likes of Louisville, Michigan State, Notre Dame and others. Adding Ohio State however certainly leads you to believe other top programs are soon to follow the trend.

Gregory Kirwan – Tight-End (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown Senior)

Continuing the impressive camp performances with the tight-end position, class of 2028 athlete Gregory Kirwan was also a recipient of Ohio State’s latest offers. A 6-foot-5, 235 pound tight-end, Kirwan does not yet have a ranking via his 247Sports profile, but does hold offers from the likes of Florida State, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Quick Hits

A recent topic of discussion thanks to a Steve Wiltfong RPM prediction in Ohio State’s favor this week, the Buckeyes were able to play host to five-star target Jett Harrison on Thursday. Taking time to compete in front of the staff and further show why he’s as highly regarded as he is, the class of 2028 receiver being in Columbus very easily could have been a step towards what will hopefully be his eventual landing spot.

Whether it be 7-on-7 or other various drills, Harrison’s play was the real deal and his presence highlighted what was a major Thursday for the Ohio State staff. Harrison is the younger brother of Marvin Harrison Jr.
