Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles added the verbal commitment of another skill player to #Tribe27 today, with an out-of-state wide receiver choosing Tallahassee as his next destination.
Majay Thompson is a 6’, 180-pound wideout from Shelby, North Carolina. 247Composite considers him a three-star prospect and the 79th best WR and 21st best player in NC. He chose the Seminoles over fellow finalists Georgia, Alabama, and Wake Forest, all of whom pushed for his commitment, and another two dozen offers from power schools. I would assume we’ll see his ranking rise with a strong senior season.
Last season as a junior at Crest High School, Thompson racked up 53 catches for 865 yards (16.3 YPC) and 13 touchdowns, with another touchdown coming off a punt return. His sophomore campaign at Shelby High saw totals of 46 receptions for 746 yards (16.2 YPC) and seven touchdowns. Consistently productive on the field and an accomplished track athlete in sprints, Thompson has the tools needed to become a key part of an offense.
Thompson finished up his official visits with FSU and it certainly made a strong impression on him. Between a strong offer for NIL opportunities (Thompson said it was among his highest offers) and the opportunity for playing time, Thompson decided in favor of Florida State. Now the ‘Noles have to hang on, especially if Bama or Georgia miss out on other targets and turn up the heat.
