Iowa football lands DB Dwayle Smith, first 2028 commit

Iowa is off and running with its 2028 recruiting class.

The Hawkeyes are in the midst of building out their 2027 class, but that hasn't stopped them from keeping an eye on the future. A part of that future was revealed on Friday night, when Kirk Ferentz and company landed their first commitment in the 2028 class.

Cornerback Dwayle Smith took to social media on Friday to share that he's committed to the Hawkeyes. Smith is from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back chose Iowa over offers from Auburn, Texas A&M, Florida State, and Wisconsin, among others.

The Hawkeyes love their defensive back prospects, and Smith is one with a ton of talent and upside. Winning his recruitment this early on could prove to be a huge win down the line as Smith climbs the rankings. Iowa's future just got a little brighter with this news.
