Victor’s Weekend is already paying off, with a commitment occurring on Sunday from 2027 three-star tight end Christian Hanshaw. More commitments are on the way, with a few scheduled for later this week and even more as we enter the month of July.

One of those players that plans on announcing a commitment early next month is 2027 four-star cornerback Monsanna Torbert. The 5-foot-10.5, 173-pounder from Cincinnati, Ohio was once committed to the Indiana Hoosiers, but backed off that pledge ahead of official visit season. He took an official to Ohio State — which led to predictions in favor of the Buckeyes — a week before going to Ann Arbor for Victor’s Weekend.

Now, it appears the festivities over the weekend may have swayed Torbert’s decision, as two predictions were placed on Sunday by On3/Rivals recruiting experts Ethan McDowell and Allen Trieu in favor of the Wolverines.

“Based on the intel we are receiving about where things are trending with Torbert, I have made a prediction for the Wolverines,” Trieu wrote. “Ohio State was the previous Rivals Prediction Machine leader, but this Victors Weekend has shifted things. Of course, Michigan was already making a move before that to get the visit, but now we see them as the clear leader.”

This is a significant development, as Michigan was a major underdog in this recruitment heading into Victor’s Weekend. However, things appear to have changed in a major way following his official visit. And if things go Michigan’s way, this would be a major addition to a secondary that already features four-star cornerback Darius Johnson, four-star cornerback Blake Jenkins, four-star cornerback/safety Tavares Harrington and three-star safety Charles Woodson Jr.

Rivals’ Charles Powers wrote a scouting report of Torbert’s game earlier this month and had this to say:

Athletic two-way playmaker with high level instincts that project well as a defensive back. Measured at around 5-foot-10, 165 pounds prior to his senior season. Has good length for his size, with arms that measure 31.5 inches. Tests as a plus athlete in the combine setting with some of the best vertical jump numbers in the cycle. Has good top end speed in the combine setting along with showing the ability to crack 11.0 seconds in the 100 meters on the track. Operates as a dual threat quarterback and safety for his high school team. Shows range and instincts in coverage. Jumps passes and has outstanding play speed when taking interceptions the other way. Has fared well as a corner in the camp setting. Shows quick feet and is able to react and flip his hips off the line of scrimmage. Has the long speed to stay in-phase on vertical routes. Does a nice job turning to locate the football. Also an active and willing run defender. Tallied 40 tackles, three interceptions (two pick sixes) along with 2,241 yards and 30 touchdowns on offense as a junior. A bit undersized for the position and will need to continue adding mass to his frame while also honing his technique. Has intriguing upside given his level of skill despite the lack of experience working as a pure corner. Has the ability to be an impact player at multiple spots in the secondary with the upside to develop into a NFL Draft pick.

Torbert — who is the No. 13 corner and No. 91 overall prospect in the class on Rivals’ Industry Rankings — is expected to announce his decision on July 1, so we have a little more than a week to go before we all know where he plans on attending college.

Luckily for Michigan fans, there should be good news from the 2027 class before the week is over. Four-star linebacker Frederrick Ford is set to announce his commitment on Thursday, while four-star wide receiver Damani Warren and three-star quarterback Thaddeus Thatcher are scheduled to make their respective decisions on Friday.
