Florida Atlantic athletic director Brian White is nearing a deal to become Virginia Tech’s next athletic director, according to an ESPN report by Pete Thamel.
According to Thamel, no deal has been finalized, but discussions are reportedly trending toward White leaving FAU. White has served as the university’s athletic director since 2018.
The news came the same day former FAU men’s basketball coach Dusty May, whom White hired in 2018, reportedly reached a deal to join the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks.
White would leave before completing the five-year contract extension he signed in September 2024. During his tenure, he oversaw FAU’s move from Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference in the 2023-24 academic year.
During tenure, the Owls reached 23 postseason tournaments and bowl games, won 10 conference championships and made several notable coaching hires, including men’s basketball coaches Dusty May and John Jakus, football coach Zach Kittley and softball coach Jordan Clark.
No formal announcement has been made by FAU, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
