Ohio State opened up the week with a BOOM!

Ryan Day and the Ohio State coaching staff have had a busy June, hosting some of the nation’s top recruits in both the 2027 and 2028 recruiting cycles on campus. However, it was the 2029 class that Ohio State made headlines for on Monday.

Elite 2029 wide receiver Austin Miller (Bellflower, CA / Bellflower) announced Monday evening that he would be committing to Ohio State. With the announcement, Miller now becomes the first Ohio State commitment in the 2029 class.

Miller’s recruitment has obviously moved quickly, as he pledged his services to Ohio State with just one year of high school football under his belt. His commitment came shortly after he unofficially visited with the Buckeyes, and he only received an official scholarship offer from the Buckeyes at the end of May.

Following his visit with Ohio State, he spoke with 247Sports and said, “Whenever you talk wide receivers, it feels like Ohio State should always be in the mix. They’re arguably WRU.”

Despite having three years before he plays college football, Miller has already shown his elite potential at the position. He holds almost 20 scholarship offers from the likes of Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Washington, Boise State, and more.

The commitment gives Ohio State WR coach Cortez Hinkton a huge head start in the 2029 cycle, as Miller has the potential to become the centerpiece of Ohio State’s class. He will also likely help the Ohio State coaching staff recruit other blue-chip prospects in the cycle.

247Sports has not yet released its recruiting rankings for the 2029 cycle, but Miller projects to be one of the top WRs. He racked up 609 yards on 35 catches in his freshman season, good enough for 8 touchdowns. He also rushed for 883 more yards and 13 touchdowns.

2027 4-star DL enjoyed Ohio State visit

As was mentioned above, the Ohio State coaching staff has been busy this month playing host to some of the nation’s top recruits. Visit season is crucial for college football programs when it comes to recruiting, as it helps recruits narrow down their list of interested schools.

One of the more marquee names to recently take an official visit with Ohio State is 2027 four-star defensive lineman Karlos May (Birmingham, AL / Ramsay), who visited with the Buckeyes this past weekend.

Following the visits, all signs have pointed to it being a positive one, and May seems to be excited about the opportunity to be a Buckeye.

Ohio State already has an impressive haul along the defensive line in its 2027 recruiting cycle. The Buckeyes already hold commitments from five-star edge DJ Jacobs and four-star edges Wyatt Smith and Prince Goldsby. Ohio State is also one of the finalists for five-star DL Marcus Fakatou, and many view them as the favorites.

If Ohio State is able to add commitments in Faktou and May, it would be one of the most impressive hauls for Ohio State alongside the defensive front in recent memory.

The Buckeyes have to like where they sit in May’s recruitment, but they also have tough competition with both Georgia and Auburn also heavily prioritizing the blue-chip recruit. He took official visits with both of these schools as well as with Florida State.

May also has a decision date set for July 18, and he will likely make some more visits with his top schools. These late visits will be a tell for which schools have the best chances to land him.

May is the No. 14 DL in the 247Sports Composite, and he is the No. 130 national recruit. He is also the No. 5 recruit out of Alabama.

Quick Hits:

Ohio State made the cut for one of the top recruits in the 2028 cycle when five-star safety Casey Barner (Powder Springs, GA / McEachern) released his top 15 schools. Barner is the No. 1 safety prospect in the 247Sports composite, so Ohio State obviously has some tough competition for him. Also making his top 15 schools were Miami, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Georgia, Texas Tech, Indiana, Alabama, Texas, LSU, Oregon, Notre Dame, Auburn, and Oklahoma.
