Clemson defensive line target commits elsewhere, Tigers swing and miss

Clemsonfootball’s search for additional defensive line talent took a setback on Tuesday when one of its remaining targets announced a commitment elsewhere.
Four-star defensive tackle Segun Alexander revealed that he will continue his career at Notre Dame, choosing the Fighting Irish over Clemson, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. The Rabun Gap, Georgia native recently reclassified into the 2027 recruiting class and had become a player Clemson was pushing to add to its growing group of defensive line commitments.
Alexander visited Clemson multiple times during the recruiting process. He attended the Tigers’ Spring Elite Day in April and returned to campus for an official visit from June 12-14. During that visit, Clemson extended an offer to the 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive lineman as the coaching staff continued evaluating options along the interior of the defensive front.
While missing out on Alexander is disappointing, Clemson’s defensive line class is already taking shape. The Tigers currently hold commitments from Desmond Malpress, Santana Harvey, JiQuan Rogers and defensive tackle Jaden Wuerth. Those additions have given the coaching staff a solid foundation up front as it continues building the 2027 class.

Clemson is also still awaiting a decision from another major defensive line target. Four-star in-state defensive tackle Seth Tillman is scheduled to announce his commitment on July 11, and the Tigers have remained heavily involved in his recruitment. If Clemson is able to secure a pledge from Tillman, it could provide a strong finish to the team’s recruiting efforts at defensive tackle for this cycle.
