Notre Dame’s pursuit of four-star defensive lineman Tyler Alexander came up short on Tuesday, as the Palm Beach standout announced his commitment to Texas.

One of the Irish’s top defensive targets in his recruit class, Alexander stands at 6-foot, 4-inches and 305-pounds and was ranked as the No. 49 defensive tackle and the No. 428 prospect overall according to the 247Sports Composite. Alexander was down to Texas, Notre Dame, Georgia, and Colorado and ultimately chose the Longhorns.

Notre Dame offered Alexander in January, through defensive assistant Chris Partridge. Alexander has been regarded as a high-upside interior defender. Recruiting outlets note his 80-inch wingspan at a Rivals event.

For Notre Dame, this loss is notable but not all that surprising. Head coach Marcus Freeman did all he could to have the Irish prioritize Alexander but ultimately it was not enough as Texas was very aggressive late in the recruiting and were able to lock him down.

By missing out on Alexander, the Irish will have to pivot on to other targets but there is no need for panic in South Bend just yet. Notre Dame is still off to a very promising start in the 2027 class having the current No. 3 overall.
