Ohio State, Ryan Day Make Huge Move In 2029 Class on Monday

As the Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day begin to prepare for the 2026 college football season, the program continues to make noise on the recruiting trail this summer.

While the Buckeyes have made great strides in the 2027 class this offseason by landing multiple four-star prospects, Day and his coaching staff have begun to make progress in future recruiting cycles. This includes the commitment of two highly-touted 2028 prospects in EDGE Jameer Whyce and running back Elijah Newman-Hall. However, Ohio State made a significant splash in the 2029 class to kick off the new week.

According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Monday evening, 2029 elite wide receiver recruit Austin Miller has committed to the Buckeyes over the likes of the Oregon Ducks and the Michigan Wolverines.

Miller, as one of the top wide receiver recruits in the 2029 class, is coming off an extremely productive freshman season at Bellflower High School. The California native proved to be a dynamic weapon for the Buccaneers in 2025, as he finished with 603 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, while also recording 883 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.

In addition to his success on offense, Miller showed plenty of success on the defensive side of the ball as a freshman, tallying 36 tackles, eight tackles for losses, four sacks, and four pass deflections.

Standing at 6-foot-5, 200 lbs., it’s clear that Miller already possesses a terrific frame to become an elite pass catcher at the college level. His rare blend of size and athleticism was on full display throughout his first season at Bellflower High School, as he was a difference-maker on both sides of the ball.

Still, despite his ability to play anywhere on the field, the Buckeyes are set to make him a wide receiver at the college level, with newly-hired offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton being the main recruiter of Miller.

With Miller officially announcing his commitment to Ohio State this month, the young prospect is now the first recruit to commit to the program in the 2029 cycle. The Buckeyes have done an outstanding job of attacking both the 2027 and 2028 classes, as Day currently possesses the No. 15 2027 recruiting class and the No. 2 2028 recruiting class, per 247Sports.
