Alabama basketball isn’t signing one of the 2026 commits it expected to put pen to paper during the Early Signing Period.

According to a report from On3’s Joe Tipton on Monday, Nov. 17, 4-star Chris Washington Jr. has decommitted from the Crimson Tide and reopened his recruitment.

The Providence Academy small forward out of Murfreesboro, Tenn. committed to Alabama on Sept. 8 following his official visit to Tuscaloosa.

Why did Chris Washington Jr. decommit from Alabama?

Washington, who was the Crimson Tide’s first 2026 commit, didn’t share details as to why he opted not to go with Alabama.

Initially, Washington chose Alabama over Ole Miss. However, he retains offers from Auburn, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Villanova and FAMU.

Where does Alabama basketball 2026 recruiting class stand now?

Alabama will still have 4-star guard Tarris Bouie on campus next fall after the SPIRE Academy senior signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Without Washington, Alabama’s 2026 recruiting class − which now only features Bouie − has dropped to No. 57 in the 247Sports composite rankings after spending weeks in the top 25.
