As they say, "there's a first time for everything," and we have one of those firsts with an announcement from EA Sports for the release of 'College Football 27,' the third installment of the rebooted franchise college football junkies love.

According to a social media post by the game, Ohio State superstar wide receiver Jeremiah Smith will be rated a 99, which is the highest possible score a player in the game can be rated. Moreover, it's the first time since the franchise found its way back on gaming consoles that a player has been rated that high at launch, meaning upon initial drop of the game.

Smith is widely known as the best player in college football (are you listening, Heisman and Biletnikoff voters) and has already put together some gaudy numbers in his first two seasons in the game. He is primed to break almost every receiving record Ohio State has on the books this season and should go down as one of the best to not only wear the Scarlet and Gray but to play receiver in the college game.

While Smith's rating is known, there have been other leaks. According to those, the top ten include Indiana offensive tackle Carter Smith (97 overall), Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore (97), Missouri offensive tackle Cayden Green (96), Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy (96), Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney (96), Georgia safety KJ Bolden (95), Oregon quarterback Dante Moore (95), Texas defensive end Colin Simmons (95) and Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin (94).

We'll have more on the game as further announcements are released by EA Sports, but in the meantime, the game is set to be released July 9 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Early access begins July 2 for MVP Bundle owners and July 6 for players who purchase the Deluxe Edition. Mark your calendars.
