Miami (FL) football stretched its impressive College Football Recruiting win streak to the 2029 class Wednesday. Head coach Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes landed the No. 1 quarterback in that cycle: CJ Cypher.
Cypher arrives in a two-for-one special too for the National Championship Game runner-up. He chooses Miami alongside prized 2028 four-star tackle Kweli Fielder, as both confirmed their decisions with Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals.
Miami lands two talents from Georgia powerhouse Carrollton. Although the 6-foot-1 Cypher immediately turns down numerous blue blood programs for Miami: Ohio State, Notre Dame, Auburn, Georgia and Florida State.
Cypher can capitalize on another trend too: Miami prospects who commit to the program as high school freshmen. Star wide receiver Malachi Toney shut his recruitment down in his ninth grade year. Toney eventually reclassified for the 2025 class and immediately became an instant impact weapon for the ‘Canes.
Miami lands a top 100 prospect in Fielder for the trenches. Cristobal continues to emphasize building from the trenches out in Coral Gables. Like Cypher, Fielder was courted by Ohio State, Georgia and Auburn. But Texas and Florida rose as two more powerhouses aiming to grab him on the recruiting trail.
The Hurricanes are collecting multiple recruiting wins for the summer. Four-star safety Andre Hyppolite turned down Florida and Georgia for the ‘Canes. The Atlantic Coast Conference power also flipped a pair of five-stars in edge rusher Jaiden Bryant (previous LSU commit) and cornerback Donte Wright (once committed to Georgia).
So Miami currently ranks No. 2 overall in the ’27 class behind Texas A&M. But they land two early cornerstones in Fielder and Cypher for the next two classes.
