Former Big 12 foe gaining momentum on Oklahoma for top 100 target

There’s a big decision happening on Friday when consensus top 100 prospect Bode Sparrow makes his commitment live on 247Sports YouTube channel. The Oklahoma Sooners have long appeared like the team to beat but with official visits to Oregon, Utah, and BYU after his time in Norman at the end of May, there’s perhaps a new lead contender for Sparrow.

According to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, BYU has picked up a lot of momentum heading into decision day.

As the No. 4 athlete in the land, Bode Sparrow gears up for his Friday announcement, BYU is the program steady among the finalists with Oklahoma or Oregon being the other program mentioned. I do get the sense there is still confidence around Norman, but no question it’s the Cougars with the most buzz right now.

The Sooners are still the leader in the Rivals recruiting prediction machine, and crystal ball predictions from 247Sports still favor Oklahoma. But as we know in recruiting, things can turn in the span of a weekend visit.

Sparrow is a top 100 prospect across the board and one of the top athletes in the class. He could start for a number of Power Four schools at wide receiver, but the Sooners see him at safety or cheetah because of his speed, athleticism, and playmaking ability.

If the Sooners are able to earn a commitment from Sparrow, it would give them six committed players in the top 100 of Rivals’ 2027 recruiting rankings and their third top 100 defender to go along with Gabriel Osborne (No. 35) and Cooper Witten (No. 45).
