Notre Dame currently has one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. CJ Carr could be a Heisman candidate and top draft pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Now, the Irish may have their quarterback of the future, landing a four-star QB for the class of 2028, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.

Trey Tagliaferri, a quarterback out of New Jersey, has committed to Notre Dame over Oklahoma and Penn State. He recently made a weekend visit to Notre Dame after a late offer from the program. That is when he decided that he was going to be a member of the Fighting Irish, according to Brian Dohn of 247Sports.

Notre Dame, a top program,” Tagliaferri said. “The No. 1 program in the country. Academics are crazy. Getting a degree there, you are set for life. And football, everyone knows Notre Dame football is the best in the country.”

He initially was not going to visit the campus, instead focusing more on Oklahoma and Penn State. Marcus Freeman convinced him to make the visit.

“I wasn’t going to go,” he said. “I had just been there but they really wanted to get me on campus.”

He also praised Freeman for how he interacts with the players.

“How down-to-earth he is,” Tagliaferri said. “He seems like a player’s coach. He will do anything for his players and that is someone I want to play under.”

While many schools do not have commitments for the class of 2028, Notre Dame now has three, giving it the fifth-ranked class currently.
