Notre Dame has landed a commitment from elite offensive lineman Albert Simien, one of the best players in the country for the 2027 class. The Lake Charles (La.) High School standout chose the Irish over Texas, LSU and Nebraska.
Simien is an incredibly important pickup for Notre Dame, giving the Irish one of its best overall players in the class and one of the top linemen to sign with the program in recent seasons. It also gives line coach Joe Rudolph a victory he hasn't had in his career at Notre Dame, which is to go down South and land an elite blocker from that region.
Texas A&M was considered the team to beat for much of this recruitment, but Rudolph and the Notre Dame staff continued to make Simien a priority. The selling point was the combination of high academics and on-field excellence, a pairing that matters for Simien, who is an outstanding student as well as being an elite football player. Notre Dame was always in better position with Simien than many indicated, but it wasn't until his official visit the weekend of June 19-21 that Notre Dame finally
The 6-4, 295-pound lineman is ranked as a 5.0-star recruit on the Irish Breakdown board, and he's also ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 10 player in the entire country by Rivals/On3. Simien is also ranked as the No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the country.
Simien has an elite all-around skillset. His length is tremendous and he has a thick frame with impressive power. Simien dominates prep lineman at the point of attack, and his ability to move defenders in the run game is one of several elite traits that he possesses. Simien plays with a strong leg drive and his upper body power combines quite well with his elite length. On top of the power, Simien also possesses the kind of foot quickness, agility and explosiveness you want in a high level lineman. Simien plays left tackle for Lake Charles, and his combination of length, quickness, strong hands and football IQ could allow him to thrive there. His frame, physical playing style and punishing demeanor would fit extremely well inside as well. That versatility is also an attribute that factors into his five-star ranking.
The Lake Charles star is the fifth offensive lineman to commit to Notre Dame in the 2027 class. He joins New Jersey offensive lineman Olu Olubobola, Pennsylvania offensive lineman James Halter, Wisconsin lineman Richie Flanigan and California offensive lineman Jackson Hill.
Simien earned offers from the Irish, Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Florida, Oklahoma, Florida State, Michigan, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Auburn, Nebraska, SMU, Arkansas, TCU, North Carolina, Baylor, Houston and West Virginia.
Simien is the 21st player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2027 class. He joins Florida quarterback Champ Monds, Texas running back Lathan Whisenton, Massachusetts running back Isaiah Rogers, Florida wide receiver Julius Jones Jr., Colorado wide receiver Jackson Coleman, Oklahoma tight end Titus Hawk, Olubobola, Halter, Flanigan, Hill, Pennsylvania defensive end Abraham Sesay, New Jersey defensive end Jackson Vaughn, New Jersey defensive end Aidan O'Neil, Illinois defensive tackle David Folorunsho, Georgia defensive tackle Segun Alexander, North Carolina cornerback Xavier Hasan, Ohio cornerback Ace Alston, Florida safety Zayden Gamble, Florida nickel John Gay III and North Carolina long snapper Sean Kraft.
