A staffer from the Michigan Football program is heading to the professional ranks. According to a report on Friday from Matt Zenitz of CBS, John Collins, Michigan’s assistant director of personnel, is joining the Detroit Lions as a scouting assistant.

Collins had been an important part of the Michigan recruiting department for the last two seasons, joining the program ahead of the 2024 season, Sherrone Moore’s first year as head coach. With Collins on staff, Michigan was able to assemble its highly-rated 2025 recruiting class, which featured five-star prospects Bryce Underwood and Andrew Babalola, along with other promising young players Andrew Marsh, Jordan Young, Shamari Earls, and Nate Marshall.

Before working at Michigan, Collins worked for Georgia under Kirby Smart, a program that’s had more than its fair share of recruiting and on-field success over the last decade.
