Louisville’s 2027 recruiting class took another setback Friday after four-star cornerback Allen Evans IV announced he has flipped his commitment to Vanderbilt. Evans, a Louisville Trinity standout, had been pledged to the Cardinals since Jan. 10, when he made his decision during the Navy All-American Bowl.
The 6-foot-2 defensive back is one of the top prospects in the 2027 class. Evans carries a 94 rating and ranks No. 76 nationally, according to 247Sports. The 247Sports Composite lists him as the No. 145 overall player, the No. 2 prospect in Kentucky and gives him a 0.9388 rating, which made him the ninth-highest-rated commitment of Louisville’s modern recruiting era. Rivals ranks him as the nation’s No. 17 cornerback and No. 121 overall recruit.
Evans originally selected the Cardinals over offers from Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee and several other programs. The Commodores had remained involved throughout his recruitment after extending an offer on April 4, 2025. Vanderbilt was included in his top 10 schools on Jan. 4, and he visited Nashville during the 2025 season, watching the Commodores defeat LSU while meeting with the coaching staff and touring the program’s facilities. He also recently made another visit to Vanderbilt before announcing his commitment.
Evans starred for Trinity High School during his junior season. He finished 28 tackles and two interceptions while not allowing a touchdown in coverage, earning MaxPreps Second-Team Junior All-American honors. He helped lead Trinity to a 13-2 record and a third consecutive Kentucky Class 6A state championship.
The flip marks the third Louisville decommitment in the past two weeks and the fifth overall in the Cardinals’ 2027 class. Defensive lineman Kaleb Exume switched to Boston College, while athlete Brooklyn Maxey committed to Kansas State after previously pledging to Louisville. Quarterback Jack Sorgi later chose Wisconsin, and wide receiver Darion Moseley committed to Arkansas.
Nevertheless, the Cardinals still hold 16 commitments in its 2027 class, including recent additions Dre’Mail Carothers, Kyson Mallard, AJ Tillman Jr., Darrian Tomlin and Keontay Toomer. Louisville’s class ranks No. 29 nationally in the 247Sports Composite with four remaining four-star commitments.
For the Commodores, Evans becomes the program’s 15th commitment in the 2027 cycle and their third four-star pledge, joining Omarii Sanders and Jasper Ngokwere. He also becomes part of a defensive back group that includes Levi McKenzie, Matt Williams and Dillon Davis.
