EA Sports CFB 27: Big 12 team ratings and player overalls

College football fans were starved for a licensed video game for over a decade, but now, the release of EA Sports College Football is an annual tradition.

The latest installment, EA Sports College Football 27, releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on July 9, 2026 and will be the third launch since the game resurrected in the summer of 2024. In addition to new rosters, this coming release introduces Mascot Mashup mode (reviving a popular feature from the classic NCAA titles in the 2000s and 2010s), which features 120 playable mascots.

For the Big 12, all 16 teams have playable mascots in Mascot Mashup mode:

  • BYU — Cosmo
  • Cincinnati — Bearcat
  • Colorado — Chip
  • Houston — Shasta
  • Iowa State — Cy
  • Kansas — Big Jay

  • Oklahoma State — Pistol Pete
  • TCU — Super Frog
  • Texas Tech — Raider Red
  • UCF — Knightro
  • Utah — Swoop
  • West Virginia — Mountaineer

Reigning Big 12 champion Texas Tech is the highest-rated Big 12 team in the game at 87 overall. The Red Raiders are also tied for the second highest-rated defense on the game at 90, only trailing Oregon by one point. Texas Tech returns 13 starters from its 2025 team which qualified for the College Football Playoff as the No. 4 seed and brought in several all-conference caliber starters to replenish the defensive line and linebacking corps. Reigning runner-up BYU is the second highest-rated Big 12 team in the game, sitting one point below at 86 overall.

Iowa State and Kansas are tied for the lowest-rated Big 12 team in the game at 77 overall. Iowa State is one of two FBS teams replacing every offensive and defensive starter after the departure of longtime head coach Matt Campbell to Penn State. Kansas is fresh off a second-consecutive 5-7 campaign, looking to return to bowl eligibility under sixth-year head coach Lance Leipold.

There are 21 Big 12 players given an overall of 90 or higher. Texas Tech cornerback Brice Pollock, Cincinnati guard Evan Tengesdahl, and Houston guard Shadre Hurst share the conference’s top rating at 93 overall.
