Penn State’s Beaver Stadium is undergoing a massive renovation, costing over $700 million, and spread out over several seasons. Some of the less flashy (but wholly necessary) upgrades include better accessibility, winterization of the infrastructure, enhanced wi-fi, and more restrooms and concession options.
But the biggest, most obvious upgrade is to the upper west side of the stadium, where the old, sweeping seats are being replaced by tiers, alongside a new press box.
In a recent interview, athletic director Pat Kraft dropped a fun little nugget – in the 2026 season, the stadium may end up seating 109,000 people.
This would make Beaver Stadium the biggest stadium in the country, surpassing Michigan’s Big House, which seats around 107,500 people (super narrow seats buoying that number notwithstanding).
This does appear to be a temporary situation for the 2026 season. This upcoming year, the concrete for the upper tiers will have been poured, and the area filled with bleachers. However, by the 2027 season (and beyond) those tiers will largely be filled with luxury suites, reducing the capacity of the stadium.
Still, for at least a little while, it’ll be nice to hold the crown of biggest stadium in America.
