We heard another BOOM! around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Monday when 5-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou announced his commitment to the Ohio State football 2027 recruiting class.

Out of Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California, Fakatou chose the Buckeyes over Georgia and Texas, and it was of little surprise because the 6-foot, 6-inch, 275-pounder has long been considered a very heavy OSU lean. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Fakatou is ranked as the No. 2 defensive lineman and 26th overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle.

It’s the third defensive lineman to commit to the 2027 class, joining five-star edge rusher DJ Jacobs and four-star defensive end Wyatt Smith. Ohio State has also received crystal ball predictions to land four-star defensive lineman Karlos May, who will announce his college decision on July 18. What a haul that would be for Larry Johnson and Ryan Day.

With three edge rushers in the class, it’s possible that Fakatou could move inside if one of the other two doesn’t. He has both the size and quickness to develop at either spot.

With the news, the Buckeyes now have 18 verbal pledges in the 2027 class, a group that currently ranks No. 7 overall according to the 247Sports Team Composite rankings. And it might just be on the way up as well.
