This week, Penn State named its Big Ten media day representatives for next month. Needless to say, fans should be very happy about their selections.
Two key players returning from injury, Tony Rojas and Anthony Donkoh, and transfer quarterback Rocco Becht will field questions on the first day of the event. This represents a fantastic balance of players who chose to return to Happy Valley and a new face key to new head coach Matt Campbell's rebuild.
Interestingly enough, both Rojas and Donkoh missed spring practice due to their lingering injury issues. Rojas has dealt with a torn ACL he suffered last December. He will look to lead a new-look linebacking corps that includes several key transfers such as Iowa State's leading tackler last season in Kooper Ebel, along with Caleb Bacon and Cael Brezina.
Meanwhile, Donkoh also was recuperating from an injury, but still started 11 games along Penn State's O-line. At right tackle, he will be tasked with protecting Becht this season while also staking his claim as one of the Big Ten's most underrated linemen as he looks to build upon his 2024 All-Big Ten honorable mention season.
Becht is not just the most experienced quarterback in the country, but also someone who is familiar with these kinds of events. Last year, he represented Iowa State at the Big 12 media days. As someone who leads the FBS in starts, Matt Campbell has a lot of faith and belief in Becht to be an example both on and off the field. Many questions aimed at Becht could be about his expectations for this season in a different conference.
While there could have been any three players that Campbell chose, these three seem to be the perfect representation of a new era in Penn State football history.
Big Ten football media days are scheduled to be held July 28-30 in Chicago.
