Can Western Michigan grab a spot in the MAC Championship? Not quite, but it can come really, really close with a win over the Huskies.
The Broncos are one game ahead of the rest of the pack, but it’s a very, very big pack. Lose to Eastern Michigan next week, and this gets funky, but no matter what, it’s been a strong season, and there’s a chance to be one of the league’s most attractive bowl teams.
Northern Illinois has won two of its last three games to find something positive out of its tough run, and now with two home dates to close – Kent State up next – ending up 5-7 would be a terrific season save.

Ball State and UMass might be awful, but at this point in the season, the Huskies will take what they can get, and what they got were over 300 rushing yards against both teams.
They won’t run for 300 yards against Western Michigan, but they’ve been rushing for over five yards per pop, on a regular basis in MAC play, and that’s a start.
Western Michigan doesn’t score enough to put games away with ease. As long as the Huskies can hang around …
Western Michigan vs Northern Illinois Prediction, Betting Lines
Northern Illinois doesn’t have enough of a passing game to pull this off.
Western Michigan might be methodical, but that should work just fine. Keep the chains moving, control the clock, repeat.
The Bronco defense will force the Huskies to consistently hit throws, and they can’t do that.
