Texas Longhorns Gaining Edge in Recruitment of 3,500-Yard RB Landen Williams-Callis

The Texas Longhorns are emerging as a serious contender for one of the top running backs in the 2027 recruiting class. Out of Richmond, Texas, Landen Williams-Callis has taken official visits with the Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, Missouri Tigers, Oregon Ducks, SMU Mustangs, Indiana Hoosiers and LSU Tigers.
Despite the lengthy list of options, though, it appears that Texas is beginning to take the lead. It’s no surprise why Steve Sarkisian and his staff are pushing for a commitment. Last season for Randle High School, he rushed the ball 324 times for 3,502 yards and 59 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.
Luckily for Texas, they’re set up well for the in-state recruit. After his official visit to Austin on June 19, Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong reports that the Longhorns are becoming the team to beat in the battle for Williams-Callis.
“Texas continues to emerge in the recruitment of the nation’s No. 3 running back Landen Williams-Callis,” Wiltfong wrote. “Several sources believe the momentum is in Austin for the Richmond (Texas) Randle product as they battle Texas A&M, Missouri, SMU, Houston and others.”
It would be a major win for Texas. At 5-foot-7.5 and 190 pounds, he is a four-star recruit, the No. 3 running back, the No. 6 player in the state and the No. 47 player in the nation, according to Rivals Industry Rankings.
Texas is already on track to produce an impressive 2027 cycle. Sarkisian has landed 20 commitments, ranking sixth in the nation and third in the SEC. However, Williams-Callis wouldn’t be the first running back after already bringing in four-star Noah Roberts.
While the Longhorns have plenty of competition for his commitment, the latest recruiting buzz suggests they’re positioning themselves well.
