Here's Ken Schreiber's latest CFP rankings predictions, and plenty of questions remain

As the third week of CFP rankings are released today, one element is already clear – the committee still obviously values wins and losses, and head-to-head competition is the most significant factor – unless you’re Notre Dame or in the SEC. That’s why Texas was ranked ahead of Oklahoma, Alabama was ahead of Georgia, etc.

So why then is Miami ranked behind the Irish, whom they defeated 27-24, with each having the same number of losses? And why is Ole Miss highly ranked when they have only one win against a current ranked team when we were told strength of schedule would be a major component of the committee's criteria, and their non-SEC strength of schedule is atrocious (Georgia State, Wazzou, and Citadel). Play a Power Four school for crying out loud, preferably on the road! (Mississippi only plays four road games!).

Miami Hurricanes running back Girard Pringle Jr. (22) carries the football against NC State Wolfpack defensive back Asaad Brown Jr. (26) on Nov. 15.

Texas trooper should be suspended

Did you see where South Carolina's Nyck Harbor scored on an 80-yard touchdown reception against Texas A&M in which he continued out of the endzone and into a tunnel? Well on the way back from the field while being congratulated by players, a state trooper is seen walking back towards them and intentionally putting his body between two players, causing physical contact and yelling at the players. That trooper, who was relieved of his game duties that day, should be suspended, undergo mandatory counseling for his confrontational act and never allowed to secure a college football event in the future. Disgraceful.

Texas QB Manning less than impressive

Traveled to Athens, Georgia, and was not impressed with Texas quarterback Arch Manning, who cannot avoid pressure, has happy feet” and is unable to locate a secondary receiver. Coach Steve Sarkisian is limiting him to short throws within five yards of the line of scrimmage. His stats were OK but the devil is in the detail. Texas remains barely alive for a CFP berth with three losses since they finish with No. 3 Texas A&M but Manning has not improved all year and remains stuck in mud.

Coaching changes coming?

Lane Kiffin says he’s "happy" at Ole Miss but he’s just a chameleon being coy. A mercenary in sheep’s clothing, he’s leaving for huge money (probably Florida), another example of disloyalty and non-transparency, with Lincoln Riley a close second… Just ask anyone at Tennessee.

Supposedly, Virginia Tech is in negotiations with James Franklin? That would be natural since he cannot defeat ranked teams (4-21) and Tech would be satisfied just getting back to a competitive level. But if that changed and Franklin started defeating ranked opponents, he’d probably want to renegotiate.

Predictions, thoughts on CFP rankings

No. 1 Ohio State (10-0): Easily defeated UCLA 48-10. Even the customary loss to Michigan in two weeks will not be crushing. No. 2 Indiana (10-0): Defeated Wisconsin 31-7. Ditto for the Hoosiers who are 10-0 for the first time in history. No. 3 Texas A&M (10-0): Trailed unheralded South Carolina 30-3 at halftime only to stage the greatest comeback in SEC history (31-30). No. 4 Georgia (9-1): Emphatic win against Texas 35-10. Even a loss will not deprive them of a CFP berth. No. 5 Texas Tech (9-1): The Red Raiders are very good, and their only loss was at Arizona State on the road. No. 6 Ole Miss (9-1): You know our position, but SEC bias is all over this. No. 7 Oklahoma (8-2): How can you deny the Sooners two victories on the road at Tennessee and Bama? No. 8 Oregon (9-1): The Ducks have only one win against a current ranked team (Iowa) but with one loss, they’re in. No. 9 Notre Dame (8-2): Nice road win against overrated Pitt as predicted here. We like the Irish but would put other two-loss teams ahead of them (ie. Bama, Oklahoma, Miami. Vandy). No. 11 Alabama (8-2): Tide still formidable and control their own destiny. No. 11 BYU (9-1): The Cougars looked good pummeling TCU 44-13. But this is window dressing as the committee will ultimately succumb to peer pressure and only vote for one Big 12 team when push comes to shove. Remember, it's where you finish. No. 12: Take your pick for the highest-ranked Power Five team. Tulane? James Madison or yes, North Texas State?
