Auburn football has carried its June recruiting momentum into July by landing a talented in-state defensive product.
The Auburn Tigers kicked off the month of July in style by landing four-star EDGE Marquis Evans, beating out SEC rivals Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Evans, the defensive talent from Spain Park High School in Hoover, was the second player to announce his commitment during Rivals’ “Summer Signing Day,” an event where nine of the top uncommitted prospects from the 2027 recruiting cycle are announcing their commitments.
SEC rivals Florida and South Carolina were viewed as Auburn’s greatest competitors heading into the day. Evans was complimentary of the hospitality he received during his visit to Florida, and South Carolina has made Evans a priority throughout the recruiting process. However, he says that Auburn “feels like home,” which ultimately led to the Tigers winning the battle.
The race was tight until commitment day. Auburn held three predictions from Rivals recruiting experts heading into the week. That number increased on Wednesday when Rivals’ Blake Alderman and Corey Bender submitted predictions favoring Auburn, which pushed Auburn’s forecast to 95%.
Evans is the 25th player to commit to Auburn’s 2027 recruiting class, which started the day ranked No. 10 in 247Sports’ rankings and No. 12 according to Rivals. He is also the third EDGE to join the class alongside Rion Jackson and James Pace.
