Blink, and you just might miss it, but the Oregon Ducks have secured two elite corners in the 2027 recruiting cycle in less than an hour.

Blue-chip corner Hayden Stepp announced his commitment to the Ducks over Alabama and Cal. Stepp is the No. 44 recruit nationally with a four-star rating and the top player from Nevada in the 2027 class per the Rivals Industry Ranking. ESPN rates Stepp as a five-star player. He stars for Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, where he is slated to become a four-year starter.

“(I’m) somebody that’s ready to work,” Stepp said after his commitment. “I’m always going to compete, and I’m excited to be there .. I’m excited to work and make plays for the Oregon family.

Stepp has been rumored to the Ducks for some time, and an outstanding official visit on June 12 helped push the Ducks across the finish line. After reconnecting with Oregon freshman safety Jett Washington, who was his teammate at Bishop Gorman, the Ducks held the momentum in the recruitment.

Dan Lanning’s staff has been on a roll on the recruiting trail lately, especially on defense. The Ducks added four-star corner Tae Walden Jr. just moments before Stepp joined him in Oregon’s class. Stepp had a great weekend at The Opening as well, facing off with some of the nation’s top recruits.

“At The Opening, he kind of told me to slide to Oregon,” Stepp said of his conversation with Walden. “So I had some idea of where he was going.”

Standing at 6-foot-4, Stepp is a large corner who could eventually transition to safety. However, he is competitive at the line and won’t get pushed around in man coverage, using his length to his advantage.

The competition at the collegiate level won’t shock Stepp after starting as a freshman at one of the top high school programs in the country. He is a strong tackler in space and could be an immediate impact player for the Ducks, similar to Brandon Finney Jr.

After pulling in two big commitments in quick succession, Oregon is seeing its class ranking rise plenty. The Ducks entered the day with the No. 9 recruiting class in the nation, per Rivals, and the class has already moved up a few spots to No. 4 and is the top class in the Big Ten.
